Kompakt Hand Grinder

Description

A hand grinder sized for a travel bag: 158 mm tall with the handle folded, 42 mm stainless conical burrs, and a black powder-coated body that takes a 25 g dose. It weighs 410 g, most of that in the burr assembly rather than in the shell.

The adjustment ring sits under the burr with 24 clicks per rotation, roughly 22 microns apiece. Espresso lands around 8 clicks from zero, a V60 around 22, a cafetiere around 30. Those numbers are printed inside the ring so you can find them in a dark kitchen.

Two shielded bearings hold the shaft, which is what keeps the grind even at coarse settings. An unsupported shaft wobbles and gives you fines nobody asked for. Grinding 18 g takes about 40 seconds at an espresso setting.

It comes apart without tools for cleaning. Brush the burrs dry every fortnight, and keep every part of it out of the dishwasher.
