Bottomless Portafilter 58 mm

Description

Take the spouts off and the shot has nowhere to hide. A bottomless portafilter shows you where the extraction is uneven — the spray, the early blonde streak, the channel down one side — which is why we sell more of these to people fixing a problem than to people taking photographs.

• Fit: standard 58 mm groups, E61 and most prosumer machines
• Basket: takes 18 g and 20 g baskets; an 18 g ridgeless basket is included
• Body: stainless steel with a copper-plated collar
• Handle: turned walnut, 115 mm, oiled rather than lacquered

The underside is machined flat so the basket sits level, and there is no lip for grounds to collect under. It will make a mess for the first week. That is the point — you see the fault, you correct the distribution, and the mess stops. Hand wash it and dry the collar; plating and dishwashers don’t get along, and the walnut wants an oiling once a year.
