Description
Most grinders leave the factory with their burrs a fraction out of parallel, and that fraction is what widens the grind spread. The kit gives you a way to see it: marker on the burr, one turn by hand, and where the ink has gone tells you which side is touching first.
- In the box: four stainless shim sets at 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 mm, a marker, a brush and a card of instructions
- Shims: 46, 58, 64 and 83 mm bores, six of each
- Fits: most flat-burr grinders with a bolted burr carrier
- Time: about 40 minutes the first time, ten minutes after that
It is a patient job rather than a hard one, and every part of it is reversible — nothing is permanent and the shims come back out. Take a photograph before you unbolt anything. The instructions cover flat burrs only; conical grinders are aligned a different way, and this kit won’t help you there.
