Description
Santos is the port these beans have shipped through for a century, and the name has come to mean a plain, well-sorted, mild Brazilian coffee. This is exactly that. The lot is screen 17, machine-picked at around 900 metres in the south of Minas Gerais, pulped natural, and dried on patios.
It is the least dramatic bag in the shop and it sells the most. The cup is peanut, cocoa and a light caramel sweetness, with almost no acidity to speak of, which is why it works in an office pot at ten in the morning as readily as in a moka pot on a Sunday.
Brewing notes: 60 g per litre in a batch brewer, or a coarse grind and four minutes in a press. In a moka pot, fill the basket level rather than tamped and pull it off the heat as soon as the stream goes pale.
Whole bean, resealable bag with a one-way valve. Available in 250 g and 500 g; if you want it by the kilo, the Cerrado lot fills that slot better.
