Metal Mesh Filter 02

Description

A reusable stainless mesh cone in the 02 size, so it drops into a standard one to four cup dripper. It is etched from 0.2 mm sheet with 80 micron perforations, then folded and spot-welded rather than glued.

Metal lets the oils through where paper holds them back, so the cup has more body and a heavier mouthfeel, closer to a cafetiere than to a paper brew, with a little sediment at the bottom. Grind coarser than you would for paper.

It saves a filter a day and it does not go soft when the water hits it. The trade-off is that you have to clean it: rinse it straight after brewing, while the grounds are still wet, and the bed comes away in one piece.

Every fortnight, soak it in a coffee detergent solution and brush both sides. It is dishwasher safe, but detergent residue left in the mesh will taste of it on the next brew.
