Description
A 750 g tub of citric and lactic acid descaling powder with a 25 g scoop, for kettles, filter machines and pour-over servers. That is about thirty treatments, which on medium-hard water works out at two years of monthly descaling.
The powder dissolves clear and works cold, though warm water speeds it up. Unlike vinegar it leaves no smell in the plastic parts of a machine, and it will not cloud a glass server the way a strong acid does.
One scoop to a litre of warm water, leave it standing for 20 minutes, then rinse twice. On a kettle with heavy scale, leave it an hour and brush the element rather than doubling the dose.
Not for espresso machines with brass or copper boilers, which want the sachets made for them. Keep the tub sealed, because the powder cakes once it takes up moisture.
