Description
A ceramic trivet for the spot on the counter where a kettle base lives. Stovetop kettles come off the hob hot and a metal base will scorch a wooden worktop in a second; fired clay takes the heat and cools down again without cracking.
It measures 18 cm across, which fits the round power bases on the Brygga kettles as well as any stovetop kettle up to about 1.5 litres. Three cork pads underneath lift it a couple of millimetres, so the heat leaves the underside instead of soaking into the wood.
The glaze is matte on top and left off at the rim, where the clay shows through; it marks a little with use, the way a chopping board does. Wash it by hand and dry it flat — standing a trivet on edge in a rack is how trivets get chipped.
