French Press 350 ml

Description

A small cafetiere for one or two cups: 350 ml to the fill line, a borosilicate beaker, a stainless frame and a stainless plunger. This is the size most people should have bought instead of the eight-cup pot that goes cold halfway down.

The filter is a three-part stainless mesh at 0.15 mm, fine enough to hold back most of the grounds and open enough that the oils come through and the cup keeps its body. A paper filter would take away both.

Use 21 g of coarse grounds to 350 ml at 94 °C. Stir at 30 seconds, break the crust and skim at four minutes, then plunge slowly and decant. Coffee left standing on the grounds keeps extracting and turns bitter.

The beaker lifts out of the frame for washing and can be replaced on its own. Mesh discs are stocked as spares, because they wear out before anything else does.
