Scale Mat

Description

A brew scale reads to a tenth of a gram, which means it also reads the counter it stands on. Set a kettle down beside it, or nudge the bench, and the number moves while your pour does not. This mat sits under the scale and takes most of that out.

It is a soft moulded mat, 3 mm thick, with a ribbed underside that grips a worktop and a raised lip on all four sides. The ribs give the mat somewhere to flex, so a knock on the counter arrives at the scale damped rather than sharp. The lip holds about 40 ml, which is enough for the drips off a dripper stand and a wet filter.

Rinse it under the tap when the lip has caught something, and dry the underside before it goes back down; a mat put away wet leaves a mark on a wooden counter. It takes a dishwasher on the top rack, though the ribs hold water and want a shake afterwards.

Measures 200 by 150 mm, which covers the footprint of every scale we stock.
